“Timeout” is the story of a young boy named Timmy who is struck with boredom and desires someone to play with him, but his family is all too busy, each member wrapped up in their own lives. A dramatic turn of events forces the family to reprioritize their lives.
Originally created for the PTA Reflections contest, “Timeout” had to be no more than five minutes in length and had to fit the theme “I can make a difference by...” The short film won a National Award of Merit in the PTA Reflections contest where it was recognized as one of the top eight high school student films in the country.
“Timeout” was the first film where I tried using dolly shots, as seen during the opening scene. The dolly was actually built using the very same baby stroller I was pushed in as a baby.
Telling a story with no dialogue in less than five minutes was a big challenge, but I am pleased with the results. Nate and his family did an excellent job of acting in the film. I hope you enjoy it, and I also hope that the film makes you want to spend time with the ones you love.
